PARADOX THUNDER BLUES.

Yesterday I was using the supermarket's computer to blog and I said I would only be about 10 to 15 minutes and that was the result I just ran out of time...But this evening I have plenty.
Okay, two nights ago I was in Ridgway ,playing in a cafe called Cups and it was great fun,Sherrah Taylor was the person booked for the evening ,but it ended up with a girl called Jill and myself accompanying her , taking turns singing and presenting our material,it worked very well,it's what I would call a good spontanious collaboration!!There were quite a few people that evening and really good atmosphere. That evening I met a couple called Craig and Sarah who invited me back to stay in their hotel in Ouray, so what with all the music I ended up sleeping at the Silver Nuggets in a town shadowed by rocks on all sides, it was beautiful.
I heard that this area is very picturesque in winter, what with the hotsprings and skiing but its not comercially spoilt...I would like to come back next winter if I win the lottery...FINE CHANCE!Thank you Sarah and Craig and everyone in Cups!
On my birthday I cycled to Naturita it was a very good trip, I was most amazed by being surrounded by the Red Rock in the valleys just cycling alongside a fresh flowing creeks and enjoying the views....it's sometimes a little hard to describe , but as I said yesterday there are split seconds when I had to stop and try and take it all in!!The beauty of it all.
Naturita was the the town I stayed in last night, in a cheap motel and after I had cleaned myself up I decided to really "push the boat out" and go over to the local Saloon and eat a burger and drink a couple of ice cold beers!!
When I entered the Saloon I noticed there weren't many in there but those who were there were pretty drunk and not particularly welcoming. " You cyclists are a danger to the road and you don't even pay road tax...Hell damn it...isn't that right Jimboy?!" "Sure is !! Drive him down!!What! Don't he pay road tax??"
By this time, after I had ordered, the barmaid shuffled me over to the corner table and told me politely that the men weren't my sort and I'd do best to eat and drink and be on my way if you don't want any trouble....and that I did,I went back to my motel room and to bed.Later that night there was a thunderstorm and a powercut and I work up to a lot of screaming, shouting and fighting outside the saloon...I didn't bother looking out the window, I was just waiting for the gunshot, but that never came!
Today has been very mixed,it started sunny and I was on my way to a place called Paradox about 40 kms away , after about 20 kms out of town I noticed very dark cloud coming in from the north and the wind had suddenly changed direction ,and at that point I had to turn round and cycle as fast as I could back to Naturita and made it just in time, then the storm broke out, hale, wind, thunder and lightning and I was stuck once again. But then I had this idea t that if I could get someone to drive me away from or even through the storm then I could make up for 40 kms I had just cycled, and that was exactly what happened, I got a lift in the other direction, away from the storm and on a completely different route I had planned, infact I had to go backwards and then forwards again about 40kms away from the town and storm and then I could start my day again in sunshine.....and that is what kick started my day and the sun has been shining ever since.Thank you Ted for giving me the lift.
I wish you all a very good night...sleep well!Catch you tomorrow.

You recall this one, I'm sure:

    Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, Oh yeah
    I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away...

Our friends Heidi and Jean-Paul were also quite lost for words when they saw the landscapes in Montana, and I think they went to Colorado too. That was in 2001, back when we were all storing our snapshots on rolls of film. Jean-Paul said it was a stroke of good luck that the girl behind the counter who made the prints when they got back to Denmark was an American who knew the scenery. She would have toned down the colours, had she been a European!

  2. Hi Rupert,
The next time you go to Colorado, we need to go together. As you know, I used to live in the mountains of Colorado. You won't need to win the lottery and we won't need to worry about trouble with the locals since we'll know them. There is a whole lot of beautiful landscape and I try to go there at least once a year.
P.S., you sure are running into a lot of "Teds" on this trip. I didn't realize there are so many.
    mvh,
    Ted P.
